WIFT member Kathy Dudding has received a Fulbright Travel Award
to deliver a paper on local amateur women filmmakers at the 7th
Orphan Film Symposium in New York in April. 'Tracing the
Flaneuse' looks at six women who shot amateur films on 16mm in the
late 1920s - early 1930s, and also travelled extensively, in New
Zealand and abroad. The paper arose from her work as a
researcher at The Film Archive and a New Zealand presentation for
WIFT is planned for later in the year. While in New York, Ms
Dudding will also meet with WIFT New York members to learn about
their archival initiatives: the Women's Film Preservation Fund and
The Archive Project. She is also currently working on
post-production of her feature documentary essay film 'Asylum
Pieces' for which she received a grant from the Independent
Filmmakers Fund.
